The Speaking God
The opening verse of the Gospel of John is one of the most compressed theological statements in all of literature: "In the beginning was the Word." The Greek is Logos — a term rich with philosophical and theological weight. In Jewish thought, the Word of God was the instrument of creation, the medium of prophecy, and the agent of covenant. John takes both traditions and says: this Word is a Person — and that Person became flesh.
Exercise 1
Read John 10:1–30 in full. Write down every description of how the shepherd communicates with the sheep. Note the verbs: calls, speaks, knows, leads. What does this tell you about the nature of His communication with you?
